Plagie, copie,

<img width="1840" height="1228" width_o="1840" height_o="1228" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/6535b2545fa66336316c8a1863d9874e028b1ee10311a1166dcb26182e589dc2/image-5-2.jpg" data-mid="104707692" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/6535b2545fa66336316c8a1863d9874e028b1ee10311a1166dcb26182e589dc2/image-5-2.jpg" />

Las aproximaciones socioantropológicas nos
permiten ver que aquellas prácticas
tradicionalmente analizadas como individuales, aisladas o puramente psicológicas
son más bien fenómenos
sociales.

<img width="710" height="947" width_o="710" height_o="947" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/2946ffb72045cc602d4b6470ac63edcac0c4c55bc58c3952753468db3dedb01d/IMG_8233-3.jpg" data-mid="104707548" border="0" data-scale="34" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/710/i/2946ffb72045cc602d4b6470ac63edcac0c4c55bc58c3952753468db3dedb01d/IMG_8233-3.jpg" />

Plagiarize,
copy, manipulate, steal, rewrite this book was published
in 2018. The book is part of the open and incomplete research that (not only)
Valeria Mata has carried out around copying in the visual arts and writing. In
this work she questions, from an anthropological perspective, concepts such
as originality, individual authorship, and private property of the works of
art.&nbsp;
Copying,
plagiarism, rewritings and fakes are all controversial subjects within the
artistic and literary fields, and they continue to provoke not only aesthetic
challenges, but also philosophical, economic and legal ones. Copying, typically
punished in the artistic and creative realm, is generally considered an
unethical practice charged with social repudiation, a threat to
"originality." However, it is important to acknowledge that the
demands of authenticity and social sanctions on copying can vary among cultures,
as well as among sectors of the artistic field. The act of copying is hardly a
universal transgression, as is typically asserted, and what may be prohibited
within literary practices has been changing over the years.
<img width="857" height="1089" width_o="857" height_o="1089" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/686438599f239001e8b78073c2e9d9b0837e74e29b8b076be01ad0d198d5b5f0/IMG-8461.jpg" data-mid="104706970" border="0" data-scale="34" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/857/i/686438599f239001e8b78073c2e9d9b0837e74e29b8b076be01ad0d198d5b5f0/IMG-8461.jpg" />

Socio-anthropological approaches have shown us that
those practices traditionally analyzed as individual, isolated, or purely
psychological are rather social phenomena. We tend to think that authors or
artists work all alone, without influences, but in fact, all artistic practice
is a process that involves relating to others, imitating them, listening to
them. What we call "creation" is not a sudden happening, but a deep
dialogue with what has already been done before. No work of art nor text appear
from nothing.

This research proposes that copies, combinatory
writings, intertextual practices or fakes likewise have aesthetic, social, and
political value—and that they warrant in-depth study. The intention is to show
that these practices can be critical tools, transgressions, games with words
and identity, and critical interrogations of authorship as a system and of
originality as a value.

<img width="1440" height="1920" width_o="1440" height_o="1920" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/244f52d4d7beed2e12b997b8e0d61122f2bb4901de6c4a73b9043bc50ebe8205/IMG_7408-1.jpg" data-mid="108885440" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/244f52d4d7beed2e12b997b8e0d61122f2bb4901de6c4a73b9043bc50ebe8205/IMG_7408-1.jpg" />

disciplinarse.

Todo lo que se mueve (Everything That
Moves) was published in 2020. The texts and images gathered in this book are
the result of displacement. A mixture of portable, vagrant and fragmentary
writings that intersect to weave a web in which the movement is the center.
Writing is movement: abandoning oneself to an uncertain drift. Throughout this
set of short essays, notes, memories, reflections, journal entries, poems
and quotes, Valeria Mata wonders: What is the critical power of travel? What do
we understand when we think about the idea of home? Is it necessary to have
roots? What can nomadic mean? What forms can roaming or tourism take?

<img width="1440" height="1920" width_o="1440" height_o="1920" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/89761fd004e46b0eae4845be502f62a661826f73dd1e6cdc90d8d9fc7b5d50f9/IMG_7483-1.jpg" data-mid="108948014" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/89761fd004e46b0eae4845be502f62a661826f73dd1e6cdc90d8d9fc7b5d50f9/IMG_7483-1.jpg" />

The lack of belonging and belongings is monstrous for
a society that endeavors to condemn wandering life by building an ideal of
stable settlement and fostering terror of living without a heritage. Bodies in
motion, especially those of women, have been represented as figures with
negative attributes, mobile threats that need to be straightened up and
disciplined.

Antropología de la
comida

competencia.

Lineas de investigación actuales: comida y prácticas artísticas, comensalidad, política
alimentaria, gastronomía multiespecies.

Anthropology of Food

The act of eating is prominently a
political and cultural practice. Food represents a complex web of meanings and
entails multiple relationships. It is not only subjected to the biochemical and
physiological spheres of the organism, but is organized around various
practices, norms, rituals, taboos and imageries. Nothing varies as much in one
group from another as the notion of edible, and our relationship with food has
changed radically over time.

Food fulfills two diametrically opposite
functions: building community and producing conflict. On the one hand,
commensality builds social relationships characterized by equality, intimacy,
or solidarity; on the other hand, eating also establishes relationships of
power, distance, or competition.

Current research
interests: food and artistic practices,
commensality, food politics, multispecies gastronomy.

otro.
Public Bread

(Project in process)

Bread has mobilized thousands of
people across historical and contemporary borders. It represents politics and
class like almost no other food. Its cost and availability have been key
factors in many social protests.

In addition to cushioning and
provoking conflicts, bread also builds common spaces. The word
"companion" comes from the Latin word cumpanis,
which means "with whom bread is shared”. Can bread make strangers and
acquaintances become companions while eating together?

This research project seeks to
explore the materiality and symbolism of bread, and the socio-political conditions
in which it exists.

Bread as a symbol of autonomy, bread
as a text, bread as a gift, bread as a weapon, bread as a miracle, bread as a
tool for colonization, bread as medicine, bread as a body, bread as a &nbsp;commodity, bread as a human right.

Comer relaciona (y confronta) mundos

Taking as starting point her interest in mobile or nomadic devices, in 2015, Valeria Mata
started a project called MUEVE (move), which was a wooden roving platform that
aimed to foster alternative channels for circulating Mexican and Latin American
independent publications. This itinerant public library circulated through
different cities of Mexico and was ephemerally placed in a
wide variety of places: museums, a pizza shop, an old textile factory, public
squares, among others.

MUEVE also hosted La biblioteca
del plagio (The Plagiarism Library), a free consultation
space of materials that addressed the issue of copying and plagiarism in the
visual arts and literature. The books that were part of this ephemeral project
were materials that were used to make possible the publication of Plagiarize,
copy, manipulate, steal, rewrite this book (2018) and were exhibited with the intention of being a "public
bibliography" that showed the seams of the book.
